Pet of the Month - Pebbles, a very special p(ig)et

By Anna Muggiati
Relaxing like a ...pet!

Happy nap

Pebbles was adopted by a family that really knows how to enjoy his demanding and creative personality. Our star of the month has been featured in our social network, has many adorable photos and can be seen playing with his dog-buddies in the yard on our Facebook page.

So forget all you might previously think about pigs. As Andre, his owner, tells us, a pig can be a very fun pet to have, but also a handful, and in his words, "acting more like a toddler than a pet".  The decision to take Pebbles home was fast but an informed one: "I call it an unplanned adoption. Although we did our home work and knew what to expect wen we decided to adopt him. Educating ourselves on how to properly care for him was incredibly important. ", tells Andre. He is just a great pet all around. He is friendly with visitors. He doesn’t jump up or bark constantly. He like car rides and walking on a leash.  He is smart and silly and definitely has his own personality.
Yes, he's a potbellied pig indeed!

Pebbles, former known as Sherlock Ham has a interesting story behind him. "Pebbles ended up at Helen Woodward Animal Center and since the center is a dog and cats adoption facility, they didn’t really know what to do with a pig. My wife, who works at the Animal Center, always wanted a pig." tells Andre. Fate helped former Mr Sherlock Hams, and he had his lucky day: "So she called me and asked if she can bring him home. I didn’t know what else to say than yes. It was one of the best decisions we made. He is an amazing companion.", says Andre.

Social Pebbles!
Next, they gave the pig a new name, to go along his resident dog friends Betty and Barney. "Although Pebbles isn’t really a boy's name, but Bam-Bam was just too close to Ham-Ham.", says Andre. Very soon Andre and his wife found out about his natural gifts: "Pebbles is definitely different than dogs and cats. He is extremely smart and has figured out how to open baby gates. It took us a day to potty train him and he learns by watching. He saw that the dogs got treats when they sat, so one day he just started to come up and sit next to us when we were giving out treats, in hopes of getting one too."

Dreaming
Besides being a fast learner, the very intelligent pig is also eager to have lots of attention: "He likes to be stimulated with toys and cuddles. If he wants attention, he definitely lets us know by pushing us with his nose. If we ignore him, he can get impatient and he has no problem pulling the phone cable out of the wall if we are on the phone.  He understands when he is being ignored and lets us know he doesn't like it when he wants attention."

So if by now you are almost considering to add someone like Pebbles to your pet-family, here's a little piece of advice: "You do not want a bored pig! A bored pig is a mischievous pig. We give him toys and play games with him. Most of them involve food as a reward. His favorite toy is a busy ball. When he rolls the ball around, food falls out of the smaller holes scattered around the ball. We also built a root box for him filled with pit balls. We sprinkle some food in the root box and he can go dig around. ". So a busy pig is also a fan of comfort: "If he isn’t exploring the backyard, he likes to hang out on the couch buried in pillows and blankets or on our lap.  He also loves belly rubs.", tells Andre.

Yes, he is a toddler!

How are you Pebbles?

I'm so happy!Thank you for choosing me as pet of the month!

What is your favorite activity?

I love rooting around the backyard and smelling the flowers. Sometimes I eat them. The sun feels good on my skin, so I love to take naps outside. My skin is very sensitive, so I really like laying on my side and getting my belly rubbed.

Do you like humans?

Not your average pet!
Yes I love humans!  I'm a little slow to get to know new people, but I am not afraid to meet them.  I have a very strong bond with the humans in my family.  Every now and then, I get to go to Helen Woodward Animal Center to take part in Critter Camp.  I get to hang out with a lot of kids and teach them about caring for animals like me.  They always have some snacks for me to munch on.

Whose pet are you?

I am definitely a mama's boy. My human mom spends a lot of time with me, so I feel comfortable when she is close.

Do you need a muddy spot to have fun?

No, mud is not important to me. I like to smell dirt and plants and flowers, but I don't roll around in it.  Believe it or not, I like to be clean and I don’t like to go outside when it rains. Cold, cloudy days make me sad and I usually stay inside, bundled up in blankets.

What is your favorite restaurant?

Rubios. We go once a week. The manager always gives me my own little bow of tortilla chips.

Here comes the sun!

Pet of May : Arracache, the Cute Kitty

Marylin? No, it's Arracache (All photos by M. Shirkavand)
By Anna Muggiati

Arracache was found meow-crying outside her human's home 3 years ago, when she was a tiny baby kitten. Shirkavand took her, fed her and made her an improvised bed. Since then she became his "beloved" pet _ or maybe he became her beloved human?  She is one of the amazing awwww-ed cats n Petzi's social network, and has more than 70 posts  _ just visit petzi.com to see her cute photos.

Lucky girl Arracache was named after a root which is used to season special dishes: "It is a traditional food I ate once in Costa Rica, known as Picadillo de Arracache", Shirkavand explains. In his own words she is very "stubborn and independent". Yet, she makes him work and do things that he would never do if it wasn't for her: "She always make me talk to her with a very pitched and loving voice". When they want to have fun, he plays with a laser toy to amuse her.

Isn't she lovely?

Wired? Yes! A lapcat I am!

Taking my job seriously: this mug won't be taken!
Now, with you, Arracache's mini-interview:

What is your favorite time of the day?

Evening, when my human arrives home and gives me tuna fish.

Treats or food?
I love canned food.

Where do you sleep?

My human's bed is my favorite place.

Please describe your owner and his best personality traits.

He loves me and always buys me what I like.
Nap time! Bye bye!

Pet Presents for their Human Moms

By Anna Muggiati

A down pillow? A brand new couch? A new house? Staycations to spend more time with them? Because I just feel that our pets know us so much... and motherhood can be experienced by most of pets moms, I believe that they if they could, pets would choose a perfect Mother's Day present. So what would your pet choose?

Maggie and Nicole (Photo from http://blog.maggieandnicole.com/)

Nicole Ellis, our very special friend and Hollywood pet trainer says that Maggie would pick something very delicious (and unique): "Maggie would probably get me a ginormous wheel of cheese from here.  That way she know that if she steals her weight in cheese, 15 pounds, I probably wouldn't even notice", she tells.

"It should be a fabulous Mother's Day",  comments Jenni C. Her adopted dogs would give her creative presents: "Shelby wants to buy me the winning Florida Lottery ticket so I don't have to go to work and can stay home everyday! Kasie will buy me a XL-King-Size Sleep Number mattress so there is more room and comfort for me and all dogs on the bed. And Jaks will order Chinese take-out for me with enough to share all around." An imitation goose pillow would probably come from Molly. Guess why? She destroyed one many years ago.
Jenni's furry fab four

Pumpkin will give Carol a catio
Pumpkin's mom Carol B. thinks the kitty would be really generous, and give something that would benefit both: "The first thing that comes to mind is a custom made catio for the back porch area _ where she can enjoy the outdoors safely without having to meow for me to open the front door for her to peek out every couple of hours as she does now. " And she explains: "Looks like she would consider this a nice gift for me since she it would mean fewer disruptions for her mom who she dotes on. I was away for a night this past weekend and when I came home it was as if I had died and come back to life _ from all the excited meows, head-butts and chirping noises I received".

Chanel, high fashion kitty

Chanel, my mom's 13 years old cat would buy her another mirror, as she loves to stare when mom is doing her make up. "She is very feminine and adores to look at herself at the mirror, so that would be her choice", say mom, who up to now raised 4 humans and cared for 8 cats (currently 4).

Dadá, my best feline friend

My white fluffy Dada, the senior Turkish Angora, would give me a new down and goose pillow, as one of his favorite pastime is to nap besides my head purring when I go to sleep. Probably my three grand-kittens, Panda, Pantera and Tigre would also take the opportunity to buy me something big: a whole certification project so to make sure they have lots of fun while being indoor cats!

Juju, the princess ,waiting to be brushed
Juju, who I adopted when she was a tiny little something, back in 2004, is the dark brown little cat princess of the house (psst don't tell her she thinks she's black) would certainly buy me a new hair brush, as she loves to watch me combing my hair and just melts when I brush her coat.

Earth Sign April 21 – May 21

By Pet-o-Sirius*

“To err is human, to forgive, canine.”  Anonymous
“To err is human, to purr, feline.”  Robert Byrne

You lucky Taurus you! You are in the second sign of the Zodiac, the bull, resolute, dependable, faithful. Your ruling planet is Venus. This is the year to start something new, perhaps a self-help course. Most of you pets will respond well to something active and upbeat. Think about Toe Tapping for Taureans or Juggling for Gerbils.  If you are more of a social activist, perhaps join Puppies For Guppies. They can always use a paw, leg, feather or fin.

Your fondness for Saturdays is legendary. Perhaps you even mark each one off with a paw print on your calendar. This is the day for you to head out with your friends, whether you are at the end of a leash or flying around overhead. Look for adventure and you might just find romance! Express your sensual nature. It could happen at the dog park, the kitty corner, or at the local feathers in flight fundraiser.

Taurus is traditional. As a Taurus macaw, dog or cat, for example, you would seldom go against your destiny, but choosing a new direction occasionally is still very acceptable. Cultivate your relationship with your pet parent. Dart here and there when they are trying to get you to do something.
When the sun and moon are in Taurus in April and May, risk, take a chance because this is definitely your time.

Keep the love light in your eyes for July and August, although it may feel a little rocky. Keep your pet peeps around you like a cloak of gems: diamonds, quartz crystal, aquamarine, lapis lazuli, maybe emerald and cautiously venture into affairs of the heart.

As a Taurus fish you will find you are not impulsive, much more practical then some, yet pleasant and energetic. If you are a gecko you could find yourself being thought of as obstinate, bossy and full of advice. Ignore it because you know in your heart that you are a hard worker and should take it a little easy. Taureans, you know creativity is your strength. Live it up. Lie in a new spot on the floor.

Earth Day: Green Pet Parenting Tips

By Anna Muggiati

Today is Earth Day and it's never too late to adopt some easygoing ways of helping the planet to heal. Here are 4 earth friendly suggestions for pet parents to help celebrate our planet:

1. Adopt, adopt, adopt...
If you are considering growing your pet family in an eco-conscious fashion, nothing greener than helping animals in shelters. Not just humane, but also a wonderful way of bringing balance to the pet world, already out of shift due to an immense number of dogs in cats abandoned and rescued.

2. Paper instead of plastic
Substitute plastic for paper bags when cleaning after your pet. They are biodegradable and don't clog the landfills, allowing their content to be decomposed (all that organic material will be wasted inside a plastic bag!). Of course if you're walking your dog, use gloves that can be reused, or a little scooper used for that function.

3. Recycled and biodegradable
Choose toys that are made from recycled materials, as well as biodegradable cleaning and grooming products.

4. Every H2O drop counts
Empty water bowls in the garden and plants if you need to change the water dish.

Dog Home Alone? Nicole Ellis shares tips on how to help you and your dog

Maggie and Nicole (All photos courtesy of Nicole Ellis http://blog.maggieandnicole.com

Nicole Ellis is a celebrity animal trainer and model based in Los Angeles, California. Five years ago she met Maggie Rose at North Central Animal Shelter and since then their partnership has flourished in many ways. Little Maggie – a mix of bichon, mini-poodle, golden retriever, border collie and shitzu – attends to 100 commands, created by Nicole with positive reinforcement methods. Besides her acting and modeling career, Maggie also is a therapy dog and in Nicole's words she is a inspiration, and hero, as she visits nursing homes and hospital sharing her joie-de-vivre.

Nicole, who is also a Kennel Club CGC evaluator, has many ongoing projects. including a book: Working Like a Dog. We invited her to share some of her expertise in one of the most sensitive points of dog-parenting, and we hope you enjoy – and learn from this interview – as much as we did!

Is there a way to make it easier for pets and pet parents to deal with separation anxiety?

Maggie is a sweetheart who loves to work with Nicole
When humans move or try new things, we often find ourselves with a nervous or unsettled feeling. Change is uncertainty. Why should it be any different for dogs? Separation anxiety is a real – and sometimes overwhelming – issue for many dogs and their carers; if you're caught up in this, you aren’t alone, and, fortunately, there are many things you can do with patience and timing.
A great first step toward peaceful separation for both of you is crate training. I’m a huge fan of crate training, it gives your pup a relaxing, comfortable, safe, quiet place that is just theirs.
To make that crate more appealing, try to get your dog a little tired before you leave the house. Play in the backyard or go for a walk or run around the neighborhood. You'll be letting off steam and spending quality time together. By the time your bonding session is over, you'll have a dog who's ready to curl up for a nap in his favorite place. This makes such a huge difference for just a little effort getting out and having fun.

A good walk before being home alone is always a good call
There's also the magic of treats. Sometimes before I go out, I prepare a yummy surprise like a stuffed Kong or puzzle toy, so my dog will have a positive association with my leaving home – even to the point of not noticing I was gone.

The best practice, which might be both the simplest and the most difficult, is not making a big deal when you leave. I absolutely love my dog and want to give her hugs and kisses before going out, but the truth is, when we create a big emotional show, we make our dogs nervous ('omg, what is she doing?') and it can fuel separation anxiety. This is not the best time to smother your dog in kisses and say goodbye three times and wave through the window. I walk out as if I'm just going to the mailbox.

This helps keep a calm and confident dog. Don't worry that you seem unemotional – you have all kinds of time during the day and night to show your affection and gratitude for your pet.
This same advice goes for coming home, too – gosh, I can’t wait to see my dog, but saying a friendly hello and then letting her calm down while I go make a cup of tea and turn on some music helps us slip right back in to normal life together.

What strategies could pet parents develop to make it easier and safe to leave their pets home alone?

Whenever I leave, I double-check that Maggie has water and that every window and door is closed. Our pets do miss us when we leave and I wouldn’t want her trying to come join me. Also, check all outside gates to see that they're closed and latched.

If your dog doesn't wear a collar all the time, consider putting one on the dog when you're away from home. Try to have at the very least a contact telephone number on it. Other useful information can be the pet's name, your name and/or address.

Partners in cuteness and hard work

While we're thinking of worst-case scenarios, I should add 'fire' to that list. In case that unthinkable ever happens, I keep a sticker in my front window that says how many pets I have inside in case they need to be rescued. You can find these stickers online or at pet shops.
Microchip, microchip, microchip. I can’t say that one enough. Microchips save lives and reunite best friends. In the terrifying and rare instance that your pup gets out, a microchip could make the difference between lost forever and happy ending. Vets don’t charge to scan for a microchip, so even if your dog loses its collar, you'll be able to be contacted when your dog is found. Many municipal animal shelters will take extra steps and time to care for a dog with a microchip, knowing that it's almost certainly someone's missing pet.

Is there a limit of time that pets should be left alone in the house?

Great question: this really depends on your dog. If your dog struggles with separation anxiety, try to set your him up for success. Try to leave him alone for shorter periods at first – as short as 5-10 minutes – and then work up to longer absences. Be patient, progress may be slow, but with consistent, quiet work, you'll get there.

Keep in mind that a puppy or elderly dog may not be able to be left alone as long. In all of my training, I set the dog up for success and, in this case, success means not pushing the limits on time away. If I’m not sure the dog can hold her bladder for four hours while I’m gone, then I will make sure I can be back sooner than that.

I don't like to leave Maggie for more than 6 hours alone but I have client’s dogs that have no problem being left for 8 hours or even longer. If I'm going to be gone for more than 6 hours, I'll book a day care boarding session for Maggie through DogVacay as I would rather have her get out to chase tennis balls and hike than sitting on the sofa waiting for me.

It's a teepee life
If I live in a small apartment and would like to adopt a dog, which breed or type of dog should I look for at the animal shelter?

Research breed and age as much as possible. Some breeds are more playful and high-energy while others would rather lounge on the couch and take the occasional stroll. For example, Jack Rusells are known for their love of running and jumping; if you aren’t going to be up early for walks and spending your weekends throwing balls at the dog park, then a young Jack Russell probably isn’t the best fit for you.

If you're lucky enough to work in a dog-friendly office (more and more business are joining the dog-friendly movement), you might want a dog who'll be a good fit for the work environment.

Take into account your lifestyle, and then look at the individual dog. Dogs of the same breed can vary widely in terms of individual personality and temperament, so you really should spend some time getting to know the dog and also asking his caretakers about his specific personality, likes, and dislikes. A dog is a big commitment; it's only for the best that you gather as much information as possible before adopting your pet.
Please be very sure to know that it's okay with your landlord to have a dog in your apartment; otherwise you are creating a potential heartbreak for yourself and the pup.

Maggie + Nicole= Double talent
How can technology help us with the safety and well-being of our pets when we're away from home?

In the last year, we've seen an explosion of pet technology. I don't know about you but I'm loving being able to play with some of the latest gadgets.
Who doesn't want to check in on their pet remotely? Now Petzila goes one better – you can check in and surprise your dog with a treat!
Maggie wears a Whistle, the pet activity monitor, so I can see how active she is while I'm away. I know if she's been sleeping or playing or out walking with friends. This year, Whistle is debuting a GPS-enabled product line which will also let me know exactly where she's been.
My other favorite techno-toy is the iFetch. I leave it out so she can pay endless games of fetch while I’m out if she's in the mood. She drops her ball in the iFetch and it automatically tosses it. What on earth does she need me for anymore?

...And their active lifestyle
Maggie: having fun while working like a (top model) dog

What does Maggie have to say about being alone?

Maggie leads an interesting life so I’m pretty sure when she’s home, she’s telling herself or her friends (we have a lot of canine houseguests) stories of jet-setting and movie-dog life. But Maggie's a ham and a working dog, so I know she'd much rather be in the limelight doing tricks or at therapy visits shaking paws and giving high-fives.
I get that sad puppy look when I leave, but then I get home and there are iFetch tennis balls and toys strewn about the house, so I think she seems to be getting her best product-testing and exercise sessions in while I’m out of the house.
Always ready for a smile!

February Pet of the Month: Pumpkin, the catwalk kitten!

Pumpkin in a bowl made by her "mom" (how adorable is that?)

Beauty statement: Tabby, ginger and white gloves!
Here's our pet of the month: Adorable, needless to say cute, and feisty two-years old, Pumpkin. She was chosen by Petzi Team not just because she looks like a pet model of all catwalk models, having shades of tabby, ginger and white on her coat. But also because she loves to hide in a Petzi Treat Cam box and eats broccoli as snack! As we say here at Petzila's HQ, behind every wonderful pet there are awesome pet parents.

Pumpkin was picked by Carol and her son Austin when they saw her on their local shelter website. Austin convinced Carol to have a cat. She was at first hesitant, as she never had a cat before. So, in Carol's words, there was a "bit of a learning curve". Pumpkin was already named as Pumpkin and Carol and Austin thought that was a fair name for the munchkin... After visiting her a couple of times they realized she was the one. And being not the most friendly creature on Earth or even that she was sick as she was being treated from a respiratory infection, she was still the one. "She was not very friendly (understatement) but there was just something about her that captured our hearts.", Carol explains.

On the rat race
Carol describes Pumpkin as "curious, determined, talkative with unbridled energy once she gets going". And if you have a female cat you'll know that there's a price for their unique demonstration of love. As Carol describes, "there's the occasional nip and swat". Although  Pumpkin doesn’t do hugs or like to be picked up, she will lie on Carol's lap and enjoys to be petted, and will even "tolerate a kiss on her head."  But she has a weak spot: Pumpkin becomes a purring machine when she gets a good brushing.

It's a mice world!
I would also call Pumpkin a foodie: She likes both wet and dry food, especially salmon dinner. Temptations treats are her favorite. Ands she loves anything cheesy! And because Carol was curious "as a cat" to search for healthy options, she found out that Pumpkin loves broccoli florets. But bare with me. Not just any broccoli... It has to be frozen florets steamed, of course, to her taste.

Pumpkin loves her extensive collection of mice and rat play things and her custom-made catwalk. She hates the word NO.

One of her favorites cardboard boxes: Petziconnect
Q&A with Pumpkin
Who are the humans you own in the family?

Pumpkin and Carol, her human #1
Carol (my main human) now that Austin is away at college in Utah. When he comes home for summer break he will be back to No. 1 human.  And, Andy (Carol's husband) who is sneaky and likes to play with me with his magic laser pointer.

Do you prefer Garfield, Puss in Boots (Shrek's version) or Felix the cat?

Garfield is most like me.

Would you share your home with another cat? What about a dog? Or a hamster?

The house is my castle. I do not share it with any other animals.

Do you prefer to chill out inside cardboard boxes or sinks?

I have three cardboard boxes that are to die for, especially my Petzi box.

Her first Human #1, Austin

When it comes to sleep... your humans' bed or somewhere else?

I sleep on my human’s bed – nestled on top of the covers up against her legs.

If your meow was a human voice, would it sound like Taylor Swift, Madonna, Lady Gaga or Ella Fitzgerald?

Taylor Swift for the win!

Water Sign February 20 – March 20

By Pet-o-Sirius*

“Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.” – Colette
(p.s. unless they can fly or have gills) – Kent

Pisces are lovely creatures: sensitive, compassionate and devoted.

You, Pisces dog might graciously give up your kibble to a Persian feline or box turtle if the situation warrants it.

Because you are highly emotional, your pet parents might have to do a lot of calming and soothing if your feathers are ruffled or if you are a pet donkey or iguana, then an apology might be in order. On the other hand you are a pet that likes to get up and go and to do things. It could be you would even like to go to Lake Louise. Make no mistake, however, because you see life as you want it to be, not quite the way it really is.

You do not actually like criticism, are easily led and you are not a leader. You will follow at every opportunity. The Pisces sign is two fish swimming in different directions: This fits because you vacillate between the real world and the spiritual. Sometimes when you dream you can see yourself running, jumping and leaping, paws flailing in at least two directions.

You relate very well to people, make friends easily at the ballpark or in a tree (birds excepted for the feline folk) and are easy going and well. You are sensual, enjoy sucking on your own toes if you have them and relish relaxing foot massage, even without ambiance like candles and fragrant oils. Neptune and Jupiter are your planets and because of your gentle nature and your affinity to water, you love soft sea green. Your birthstone is the Aquamarine. You, pets in the Pisces Constellation have the distinction of coming and going at the same time.

Pet of the Month: Albi, the Havanese

Cuteness warning: Albi is the most awwed pet since we launched Petzi's social site. Be prepared to have a girly-style OMG attack!  This interview brings some of the wonderful  photos taken by his mommy!

On the fast lane. By Evelyn J.

It wasn't not just his looks that made us look for his owners after choosing him "Pet of the Month". The 10 months-old Albi exhales happiness. We want to jump inside the photo to pet him. Probably that's how he convinced his "mom" Evelyn (someone who was not planning on having a dog at home) to keep him. To know more about Albi, here's David, his dad. As you will read, sounds like behind every happy dog there's always wonderful parents! Enjoy!

Contemplating beauty. By Evelyn J.

How did you find Albi?

We met Albi in our cousin's house in Albany, New York, last October. We quickly fell in love with him. Our relative and her family travel a lot and they were worried about Albi’s well-being. The initial plan was that Albi would stay with our relative’s sister, who also lives in Costa Rica. So, we agreed on bringing Albi with us on our flight back. But, once we landed, we realized we wanted to keep him. This dog is so adorable that we couldn’t let him go! In the end, our cousins agreed to give him away and Albi could stay with us.We were so thrilled we couldn’t believe how lucky we were.
Albi definitely shook my wife's heart. My wife thinks Albi started a new adventure as a Costa Rican, but I think she is the one having the biggest adventure discovering how sweet life can be with a touch of dog paw prints.

Catch me! By Evelyn J.

Relaxing. By Evelyn J.
Tell us more about Havanese dogs, the National dog of Cuba!

Havanese dogs are not common in Costa Rica, so we didn’t know that much about them until we met our pet.

Over the Internet you find that this breed is a companion dog. They are also known as velcro dogs, because they stick so closely to their owner's side and I can say that this is 100% true. In fact, Albi’s favorite person is my wife, so he is always around her in the house. I am conscious I am his second choice, but once he looks at me with those expressive eyes I can see how much he loves me too.

Havanese dogs are trainable. We have chosen the clicker training technique to teach Albi different tricks. These dogs are energetic and good at sports, which has translated into a more healthy lifestyle for us because now we can’t afford being lazy.

What is his favorite food and treats?

Albi loves cookie treats a lot! But, he also likes his food and that's something good for us, because we can even use his own food to reward him during the training sessions. He already knows how to sit under “Albi sentado” (Albi seated, in Spanish) order. There is a whole list of tricks we want him to learn, but for now he is being trained to stay down.

Part of the things Albi enjoys eating as well, are cauliflower, broccoli and bananas.

What is his best personality trait?

He is definitely a spoiled dog. Petting, hugging and snuggling are for sure the things he enjoys the most.

Is Albi a good friend for other dogs and humans besides you?

Albi loves other dogs. I think he wishes to play with every single dog he finds on the street. He is more selective with humans. They should first earn his trust by petting him, letting him sniff around a bit and then, he is ready to establish a friendship.

What is his favorite park and getaways? Is he a good car traveler?

Albi really enjoys going out for jogging and walking, so it really does no matter which park you walk him through. As much as the two of us are with him he can be the happiest dog. Car trips are Albi's favorite, for sure! In fact, once he listens to the car keys, he runs next to the car door and as soon as I open the door he jumps in. Feeling the air in his head when the car is moving is one of his favorite things.

 Is Albi  a demanding dog?

Oh yes! He lets my wife know whenever he needs a hug, but if he wants to play, I become his favorite person in the world.

Relaxing (again!). By Evelyn J.

Now, Albi's interview:

What noise that you most love in your home?

I suspect my parents think that what I like to hear the most is “a comer” just before I can start eating. But they’re wrong ... What I really like is to hear the sound of the car keys and imagine the places where I will be taken! I can't wait to feel the air on my face. There are so many new odors I can smell through the window. It makes me wonder if there are other dogs out there I can play with. When we are out on a trip, that’s my best time ever!

Albi, the fastest! By Evelyn J.

What is the best thing your parents do for you?

Like it's 4:45 am in the morning. Alarm is advising us that it’s a new day. What a short night! While I am still yawning one of my parents shows up next to me and takes me jogging. We go downstairs, I take some water and Yeah! I am excited now and ready to go. Hurry up, I want to go now! Woof woof!

Once I’m back home, I have to wait at the door because I’m the fastest as usual.

Do you smell everything like every other dog in the world? What would be the best smell ever?

Yes! Specially when I’m in a new place. There are so many odors I have to smell. Also, I like the sweet smell kids have. I love them, somehow, I think kids are like me, or I am like them. I am not quite sure.

When I’m at the park I breathe and I can feel the leaves, oh yeah! What a terrific odor! It was autumn when I left New York, so smelling and playing with leaves brings me many good memories. Good old times!

Do you like cats?

Cats are interesting creatures, I haven’t socialized much with them. But, I like sniffing around with dogs more.

Treat or food?

Treat! Treat! Treat!

Getting acquainted. By Evelyn J.

Do you love dogs as much as you love humans?

Every time I meet another dog, it’s bigger than me. So, that scares me a little bit. But once I sniff him out I realize that he is willing to play with me as much as I want to. In the end, I just want to play.
